Looking for realy good software for photographs

Does any one know of any realy good photo software to buy or download?im looking for somthing that can make blured,dark,old and grainy photos to look better after they have been scanned onto my laptop.Also to make photos bigger without losing the oringinal quality.I currently have arc soft photostudio 5.5 that came with my printer,its o.k but not brilliant! Any suggestions would be great,just got a expensive camera and want to have a go at the whle photography thing.Cheers.

I use adobe photoshop cs 8.0 its a great program you can either download a free trial or pay for the full edition. Or get it illegal by using limewire.
