Be very careful with HSBC. When I went bankrupt my bank accounts were frozen as I knew they would be. However even after they were frozen HSBC still managed to pay out direct debits which they should not have done therefore making the situation even worse. (Perhaps in the eyes of HSBC a direct debit is not a transaction.
Make sure you get the name of your branch manager and only deal with them and only in writing. You will be surprised how suddenly you no longer exist when you phone the contact centres and they cannot access your details because your account is frozen
I am now with Nationwide and they have been fine so far.
