Someone told me that there were Ukranians in the German Army , is this true and what part did they play?

They had a reputation for being particularly brutal in a low-intelligence way. I have an idea that there was long-standing resentment among Ukrainians at being ruled by Moscow and Stalin, so some volunteered to join Stalin's enemies. They were not a major part of German forces.

I'm not saying this is an answer but it is a little-known fact that thousands of Germans moved to the Ukraine in the early 1800s and created a mini-Germany in an area they called Bessarabia (a large area centred on Odessa). I know this because I am descended from them. So, the links to Germany would presumably have been quite strong at the time of the war.
