renovating a mirror

I have an old mirror but the backing paint is bubbling and chipping off. Where can I buy the reflective paint and how can I remove the rubbish stuff that is already on it.

Megnom. Thank you for your reply - depressing though it may be! As I 'rescued' the mirror from a derelict house I am not sure if it is worth the hassle of getting it sorted. Thanks anyway.
