Go into google, type Gap year, and amongst the sites you get are these:

There are loads of other web sites for Gap year.
Also book shops have books with help in taking a gap year, look in the travel section.
University education eh ! Wonderful.

Thanks. I have heard of google but was hoping for personal responses not just written articles as I have read the Lonely Planet books and seen these websites already. Perhaps I should have been a bit more specific in my original request. Also just to clarify, I'm not at Uni and just want a "career gap break".
I spent 7 months in Aus a couple of years ago. I literally planned it by destination of where I wanted to stay. I knew I wanted to see all of the East Coast so i planned my flight into Sydney, then decided where my next stop would be.
No accomodation was planned for the trip and all I had was a basic guidline of where I wanted to go. You speak to so many people who do different things and have different ideas you end up changing your itenerary so much it is often not that good to plan too much beforehand.
I recommend just deciding the route you want to take. Where you want to fly into and where you want to fly out from. Maybe a hotel for your first couple of nights then take it all from there and play it all by ear!!! You'll love it!
