I am getting junk mail addressed to accounts that I don't even have!
i use Mozilla Firefox - is there any way I can stop this. It's bad enough getting it for accounts I do have. I get all sorts of '[email protected]@' etc. and it's driving me crazy. I get so much I'm terrified of going away and coming back to a system crash!

Firefox is a web browser, nothing to do with email... what email system do you use?
Firefox is a browser and has nothing to do with your email.

Have you any spam filters set up at all?
Your choice of e-mail client (such as Outlook Express, Thunderbird, etc) or web browser (such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc) can't stop spam from arriving on the server of your e-mail provider.

There are only two things you can do. The first is to delete the mail from the server before you download it, the second is to adopt a 'multiple e-mail address' approach to the problem. The ways of doing this are dealt with, here:

oops - I meant thunderbird.

thanks Chris, I'll have a look
If you use thunderbird, are you reporting junk with the junk button?

Goto tools ->junk mail controls, and to the adaptive filter tab; make sure it's ticked. This will learn and get better as you report junk.

Any stuff it thinks is junk but isn't, make sure you tick the 'not junk' button too.
