I would say if she is asking to go out then let her go, she will probably not venture far from the house. Make sure she has not been fed when you let her out, and she will be keen to come back in for her dinner.
It would be different if she was refusing to go out and you were trying to force her to. If its her idea, then go with it.

The KINDEST thing you can do for you cat is KEEP HER INSIDE. Get a litter box for her to use and some toys and a cat window seat thingy that you can attach to a window sill. Cats who are allowed out have much shorter life spans than those that are strictly indoor kitties. my cats are never allowed out and they are happy and healthy, no fleas, no injuries from cat fights and i never have the fear that i might not see them again or find them squished in the road. Did you know large owls will carry off a cat. There are many dangers out there for our little feline friends so i suggest you ignore her cries to go out and keep her in where it is safe.

Sorry don't agree with keeping her in. She has I assume been used to being allowed out for the past ten years without a problem - I think it woudld be cruel to make her stay in if she is wanting to go out. Its different if they are brought up never to be allowed out, although two persians we took on as rescues who had been house cats soon got the idea and were backyard moggies within weeks. One had to be put down because of a medical problem but the other lived a normal life for many years, catching birds and mice and terrorising the postman as he came up the drive!
I agree with a previous post, you must pamper her and take her to a vets to be checked over. It sounds like she might of been hit by a car, so give her gentle food, nothing too harsh on her stomach. A TINY bit of warm milk always helps my cat. Just give her lots of love and nurse her back. It may help if you follow her into the garden, for both of your sakes.
