just watched antique roadshow,how come every one on there is posh,why cant us common people get a look in or have the rich people got that all sown up

And all the rich old ladies seem to have grasping heirs. Didja see the old bat with the Glenn Miller music who said, dont tell my grandson

if by common people ,it may be lowlifes who would not even take the time to dress smart for the show,also the lowlifeswould not keep any antiques,they would be sold off quickly.

Bit of a sweeping statement ..I have watched the Roadshow on and off for years ..since it began in fact ..and the amount of ordinary people who bring in an item to be valued and find it's worth loadsamoney are just as much represented as Lady Muck with a hice in the in the country .Do you not remember Ozzie the Owl? It was worth over twenty grand and the owner had been using it as a flower vase. She was a lovely ordinary lady who had no idea what her jug was worth and used the proceeds from it to buy herself a nice little bungalow.

I have been to see the Antiques Roadshow twice, I enjoyed my self so much I can't wait to do it again.
No, my priceless family heirlooms were not worth thousands, what made it such an enjoyable time was the people watching. Hundreds of people, from near and far, with all types of item and all types of stories. The actual programme only shows 1% of what goes on. So look out your interesting items & take them along to a show, you should be very surprised.

Hi shanks - What do you mean by 'common people'?, most people on the 'AR' seem pretty normal to me. The all time classic was the family that brought along a bag full of exquisite, small silver items which were valued at tens of thousands of pounds (with more at home, I believe).
They were collected by the (now deceased) father over a great number of years and the family had no idea what he was doing, or their value. From memory they could hardly have been called posh and, came from somewhere east of Regent Street. The look on the face of the 'expert' was a joy.
Lighten up shanks and share the pleasure and surprise of people who discover treasures sitting on the sideboard.

There are 'ordinary' people on AR as much as there are 'posh' people, if you look. As far as the producers are concerned, it depends very much on who and what turns up on the day.

The ones who annoy me are the dealers. I know the crew try to filter them out, but every so often you get a person that says, "Oh, I found it when I was clearing out an old lady's house, and they said I could have it." You just know they've paid rock bottom for it in a job lot.

But the ones I really like are the posh ta-tas who paid a fortune for something (often an average person's weekly or monthly wage) only to find out it's comparatively worthless. Oh the look of despair and humiliation on their faces!!

Stands to reason that you have more chance of discovering some family heirloom that is worth a fortune if you come from a rich family. Doesn't it? Bit unlikely that a coal miner has a Turner in the attic...
