Unless supervised by an adult. 16 year olds can serve you alcohol on the till at a supermarket, once they have the nod of a superviser. Same behind a bar.

Modern Apprenticeships are designed principally for school leavers looking for a good grounding in the licensed trade. The law has been changed specially to allow registered apprentices to work behind the bar under supervision, even though they are under 18, so they are able to train in the pub and get to understand what the job is really about.

Yes Paul it has to an apprentice on accredited scheme. These used to be monitored by the local police force (licensing officer) when I was in the trade. We had quite a few 17 yr olds working for our company, which was great for them as they were ready to hold a license on a 50,000 a week pub at 18.
