Their version of "I Love Rock'n'Roll" knocks spots off Joan Jett's version. Anyway, I think the perception of the show had a lot to do with it being on Channel 4 - remember back in the early days the tabloids would seize upon any stick with which to beat Channel 4, it was seen as the station for minorities (in the tabloids' eyes, undesirables) like gay people, black people, disabled people, left-wing people, people with one eye slightly bigger than the other... Minipops was cheap rubbish - but it was only innocent dressing-up into which the tabloid press read sexual subtext because it suited their purpose of criticising Channel 4 at every opportunity. If it had been on another channel, nobody would have cared.
