Can anyone help? I am frequently getting a screen freeze I have run my anti virus/malware, spyware programs several times and they are clean, someone suggested its either virtual memory overflow or my registry is
corrupted. As I am a newbie on this any help would be appreciated

There could be a number of reasons for this. We probably need more information. Are you running any particular programs at the time? Does your computer need to be rebooted each freeze, or does it recover after a while. How much free space is on your hard disk? How long has this been happening/did you do anything particular when it did e.g install a program?
Also, what's your computer's specifications?

Freezes several programs especially microsoft updates. I have to switch off computer ...ctl/alt/del disabled ? approx 2 weeks after installing IE 7 deleted IE7 to IE6 Then reinstalled IE7 still the same. Comp specs Packard Bell Microsoft windows XP home edition ,1,00 GHz v2002 ser pack ,used space=7.38 GB , free space 9.28 GB , capacity 16.6 MB , set ram at 384 MB Hope this info helps
I am having the same problems and its not a trojan or virus. Have you installed any programs recently or hardware? There is a known problem with a microsoft K update that affects SP2.....did this problem just start? Have you checked for driver updates? Have you restored back a few weeks to see if the problem has cleared? ..as mikeyp says, there could be a number of reasons.

How can I check driver updates ?
Windows updates normally includes a lot. There are websites that scan your system (of course to d/l any costs you money) but they will show the latest driver details and armed with that info you can go to the site yourself and d/l for free. I really would check out all other reasons for the freeze before you go to the drivers because often you can find that you want to instal a driver that is actually older than what is on your system.
