On e of the main stories on tonights itv and bbc main news has been, once again, the saga of the young scottish girl who has decided to live with her father in Pakistan. Why is this even on the television news. She wasnt kidnapped, she chooses to stay over there. This is a personal family dispute. Why is it even on television. Why should anyone but the family even care. Why is it a running story on national television. There a lot more important issues to report.

It highlights the fact that living in a volatile, backward and chauvinistic country is preferable to a remote scottish island.
lol @ booldawg.......funniest thing ive heard all day

i think its news cuz in the first place it was thought the girl was kidnapped

Your right about being a possible kidnap story in the first place, but she isnt a young toddler kept there againt her will, she is very vocal about what she wants. So I still dont get why we are given updates on the national news and in the newspapers. I really dont care where she wants to live.
Probably more because some people cant accept that others dont wish to live the way they do.
Many westerners have wished to impose their views and wishes on others over the years and cant accept that they dont want them and they are happy the way they are.
Many Westerners wish to impose their vews ? I don't know any who wish to impose anything like Sharia law on others, that's a Muslim thing.
It's probably because it seems so unbelieveable to us that anyone should want to live in Pakistan....especially a woman!
to youngmafbog; you're basically saying they dont know any better and happy in their ignorance of a better life. I'm sure the same is true of abused children, starving Africans and laboratory rats.
I thought the law stated that a child over 12 can decide where they want to live?
I'm not sure on that score pip. I thought it was 13 but someone on here posted that the law had changed in 2005 to lower the age to 9. May be a good question for the 'family' section.
Yep, Booldawg ~ I am sure I have seen the Q many a time in law, family & B&S..with conflicting answers!
I can't help thinking that after the first major argument with dad (probably over boys) the remote Scottish island and life with mom, will suddenly become a more attractive option.
Never mind an argument over boys - How long before she is told of her upcoming wedding - how old is she - early teens ?
That will probably make her sit up and wonder
Quite obvious from the replies why it's news. People are such bigots and unable to think there's any lifestyle beyond their own. Why can't she choose to live in a beautiful warm country instead of a dumpy place like Stornaway where prospects are nil, the weather is rubbish and half the people on the island are we frees (radical christians) who chain the swingparks up on a Sunday and aren't even allowed to sing in church.
The fact about this case that bothers me the most is that the girl in question refuses to go back to Scotland on any account, not even to see her mother. She says that the mother can fly out to see her. Not many people have enough money to fly back and forth to places as far away as Pakistan, and I just can't see through this girl's bloody-mindedness!

sounds like the girls already well on the way to islamic brain-washing. Good riddance.
Let her stay & breed there for all I care!!!!

Mind you fender could very well be right - she may be back, bringing a string of kids with her, quickly get rehoused & claim this, that & the other, whilst our state pensions, etc., etc., go down the pan!

Poor Molly; her choice is Scotland or Pakistan.
Kosovo or Iraq ? Dartmoor or Broadmoor ? Gulag
or Purgatory ?
Whatever she has decided, make them take her
and keep her - that's hell for them both.
