No doubt all those waiting for the results of this quiz have, like me, today received the results/answers.
The 89 points I received were largely due to ABers help and hopefully they are among the winners gaining 92 and 93 and half points.
I am interested to know if they managed to solve 66 - can't work this out even with answer to help also 62 - Palmer's Farm, I got completely wrong, apart from 11 which I understand, the rest of points were lost in halves
Perhaps friend crofter will explain all
As for the new one - geography being a very weak point - I may well pass on that

Hi Wendy

I got 89 too for this quiz. No.66 WILMCOTE - To droop = WILT, draw near = COME and mix these to get WILMCOTE.

Just started the Round the World quiz - rather a tortuous route but I won't give up just yet.

Hi wendyl - I too lost silly points and ended up with 90.5, so I was out of the winners frame. This is the only quiz I know where you have most of your anagrams TWO steps away as it were. Rather than giving WILMCOTE as an anagram of WILT and COME, you are told it's an anagram of "droop" and "draw near". Furthermore, many of the links are pretty obscure! So much for Q66!

As for Q62 PALMER'S FARM, a magician will often "palm" cards - but how are you going to find the answer? I use the AA Road Atlas and there's no sign of it there! I got that one wrong!!

Note how the clue uses a semicolon for Q62. As I have pointed out before on AB - this is a sign from THIS setter of two words being needed in the answer: Palmer's Farm. However, the answer to Q71 also needed two words: Hatton LOCKS, but there's nothing to suggest this! I had HATTON (only).

If I had been "on the ball", I would have saved a couple of my halves to take me to 91.5 (still a full mark behind the winners)!

Thanks for that crofter have just had another look at the new quiz - perhaps its not QUITE so difficult as I first thought and it may be wise to keep on 'excercising' my brain ( use it or lose it?) Certainly I was reminded about your tip on semi colons when I was looking at it. I too managed half a point with Hatton - on the surface one of the easier answers, also half for Shipston on Hill instead of Stour - "ah well" Was 50 miles out on distance - assume that was not taken into account - only a wild guess anyway.

wendyl - On the question of mileage, I used the most advanced methods known to science (based on a piece of thread) and added 10%. I was 40 miles out!
