Neon Tetras

My Dad was brought an Aquerium for Christmas, by my mum. Everything is fine and at the moment, and all is looking good, we have started very slowly and brought just 10 Neon Tetras. However we seem to have lost 2, and i mean literly lost them, we have no bodies, they have just disappeared. My question is. Do Neons eat each other, and is it possible that they could have eaten them all!

check in, around, under and inside your filter. Also look under any ornaments you may have. they don't usually eat dead ones (well mine haven't anyway!)

The other neons might have eaten them if they were dead already. sometimes when you buy new fish there is a difference in the water they are in from the shop, to what you have in your tank (PH ect...). a lot of fish are hardy but you might find one or two it affects more in which case you will loose some - not many, then the others will eat them. (there are some other causes but with a new tank this is probably the most likely)

I've had a lot of fish just dissapear, I've got 3 tanks and used to work in the fish department of a pet shop, and fish definately eat other dead fish (or they will attack/pick on poorly fish) I've only sometimes found a body.

Arh the famous dissapearing tetras!!! lol. i used to go through approx 10 a fortnight. until i noticed it was my frog and his midnight munchies! but never the less it is one of the mysteries of life, they always disapear. All fish will nibble at a dead one.

The little ones can be quite hardy, but yes, they do go missing, but it's not a case for the x files!

My problem is that my common plec (sucker) has completely disappeared - now that's something!

Are you 100% sure they were all in the bag when you got home? The most common thing to happen is for them to die overnight and float straight into the filter. The other common problem is for them to get sucked into the filter and they may well still be alive and small enough to be living in there - take a look!

We lost several of our fish when we first started. Even now I find the odd one missing never to be seen again. And I also lost a pleck. Checked all the ornaments, filter etc. Never found it. You also have to make sure there are no excape holes because fish will escape. I have had a couple jump out while the lid has been off for cleaning and it is a devil to get them back.
