How much pocket money?
8 Answers
My daughter will be 9 in April and my husband and I want to start giving her pocket money from January. Does any one have any ideas on what would be an appropriate amount? I want to to have money to use and save a bit for her holidays but I also want her to appreciate the value of money. Any suggestions please?
Thanks

my nine year old has a base rate of 2 a month, but then she and her sisters have jobs to do around the house that add up to 2 again so in total she has 4 a month if she does all her jobs. her 11 yr old sister has a base rate of 3 and 2 worth of jobs. the 7 yr old does jobs that adds to 2, but she doesnt have a base rate until she is 8.
this money is purely for them to spend on whatever they want and they have been saving for a few months and just spent it all on christmas pressies.
they dont need to buy clothes or use it for school trips or swimming, this is just for them.

I have 2 older boys 12 and 11 and they get around 3-5 a week but i also pay for their online games and mobile phone bills, i think it gets crazy because sometimes they still need more for going cinema etc, i give it to them but thats to keep them occupied as i think its a dangerous age to be 'hanging around' and most kids that gt into trouble say it was because they were bored! its difficult to set a limit, my daughter is nearly 9 and she doesnt get pocket money yet as she doesnt do anything without me, i do treat her to stuff lip balm etc and she sees that as her pocket money, i do want to start giving her money but i dont let her out of my sight to spend it yet!
My 7 year old daughter gets 3 pound a week but thats on the base's that she's done all her jobs. I take 10p off everytime i have to ask her to do them. So it depends on how good she's been at doing her jobs (tiding her room, drying up and feeding her rabbit) depends on how much she gets at the end of the week.
