Can anybody tell me, the trade name of the sticky-backed polythene, that is used as a protective cover on library books and also the name of a supplier. Almost sure that the name begins with a V.

Could be a product called Vistafoil. We use something called Adapt-a-Roll, which is similar. Have a look here:

Library books usually are covered with folded clear non-stick plastic and exercise books and other books for temporary use (ie. magazines) are covered with the sticky stuff.If your book is of any value to you and you want to keep it or trade it do not cover it with sticky plastic.
