Chinese village

Does anyone remember a series of programmes (I think it was on Channel4) about life in a norhern Chinese village which was filmed over 2 years; it was shown over 12 years ago.

It was Beyond the Clouds made by Phil Agland.

Yes, nicky I remember it as quite depressing - one film feaured a story about a teenage boy being murdered and another feaured a sick little girl who was going for treatment.

It wasn't all depressing; don't you remember the all biddies playing cards? and that dreadful spoiled girl ? We never saw her mother but her father was a bit of a spiv.

I don't remember those bits - I don't think I watched it all. maybe the depressing bits were in the first couple of programmes and put me off the rest!
