phone works, but won't let me make calls or texts...?

when i say it works, i mean it lets me get into it and take photos etc, but everytime i try to make a call or text, it just get a 'call rejected' or 'message failed' - however, just before this message appears it says 'notice: active incoming call diverts' and makes that 3 tone noise that all phones have and is used when there is a problem.

thing is, the diverts are not switched on
and when i try to click on the cancel all diverts button anyway, just to be sure, it says 'request not completed' and there is a stop symbol.

how can diverts be active when i haven't set them and won't let me alter the settings?

and why would this prevent me from sending messages and calls etc

Have you paid your bill or got enough credit?

It has to divert if you make a call as the person trying to call you won't be able to get through. It will either divert to your voicemail or divert to just an engaged tone or another preset number.

hi fred, sorry i don't quite understand you... i am the one dialling the number, and it won't let me...

don't know what happens to incoming calls, but i cannot make outgoing ones...
