Broadband

I have finally realised I HAVE to move from dial up to broadband. I know this will not go without a hitch (such is my luck) but which provider is a good one to go for. I am currently with Orange but thinking of going to Talk Talk. I know that they had problems at some stage but are they worth looking at, it seems a good deal with line rental and free calls etc. Anybody recommend talk talk or otherwise?

Pipex are highly recommended and I am with Eclipse(who i would recommend).
Personally,i would steer clear of Orange(I left them when they were Wanadoo) and also Talk Talk in fact any of the heavily advertised ISP's should be avoided imho.

We are on a provider called Demon, would highly recommend them. We have had problems from Aol & Virgin before so wouldnt recommend them.

Eclipse seem to be very good - I used to be with Supanet and had no end of problems, but since I switched, it has been fine.

ive been with orange since it was freeserve then wanadoo and not had one problem with then as dial up or now broadband its good value at 2mb with 2 gb download for 14.99 per month

I dont think thats good value any more.All Eclipse's offers are unlimited and start at �14.99.
deggers,i hope you continue to be problem-free cos the customer service was appalling in my experience.

I'm with Karoo. But that's because I live in Kingston Communications land and have no choice.

So I'd recommend to NOT live anywhere near Hull if you want decent broadband.

I have not long connected with Eclipse. Was up and running within 7 days of placing my order (right in the middle of the festive season).

Easy to set up and haven't had any probs with the service at all. �14.99 a month - well worth it.

Thanks for all your help I will certainly look into Pipex and Eclipse, although I've never heard of them before.

I was with Onetel but then I was aware that they were being taken over by TalkTalk so I made a change to them before I was forced to. I think TalkTalk over-advertised and were swamped by applicants and there has been a lot of frustation. I am on their Talk3 plan which includes landline, overseas calls and broadband. I have no complaints about the telephone or broadband service .I was paying �45 + per month with Onetel and now I pay �20+ with TalkTalk. So you can take your pick.

Personally I was with ntl and they have been quite good on the broadband side but there cable tv is c**p so have just changed to sky and they a seem to be ok so far, but there is one thing that I cannot stress to you to much on all accounts do not ever ever even think about going to tiscali unless you want broadband at less then dial up speeds 50% of the time no internet service for weeks on end and so called customer service that is like having a conversation with a dalek and that is not just my opinion there is a thread on here where everybody has the same tale to tell about them and there is a web page somewhere that reports all bad isp,s and yes you have guessed it tiscali are top of there list by a mile....

Thanks for all your input. I'm still undecided. I'm tempted to go Talk Talk, mainly because I want to change telephone supplier at the same time and some providers don't take over the line rental but looking at the broadbandchecker website it seems they are still having problems. While Eclipse and Pipex look tempting is it only a matter of time before they are taken over and you could once again be with a supplier you would rather lose? i.e. Orange (who I have certainly been having dial up problems with in the past few days!)

Dan No 1 - I have checked out Sky with two problems. One being that they don't take over line rental which puts price up to �37 per month (�11 line rental to BT) and two I live in a flat and the package is different, also several households in the flats have to sign up at the same time. But thanks all suggestions have been very welcome.
