Letting out flats

Hello there! I have recently purchased a flat and I am currently living in it. My long term plan is to rent out the property. This I hope to do in the next 18 months - 2 years time! Can anybody give me advice on what I should do between now and then. Any tips on what do to and what not to do! Any further reading suggestions. And any good financial advice would much appreciated!
