A typical dropped kerb costs between 700 and 1000 to put in depending on the amount of work required. You might have to use a contractor from the council's 'preferred' list.
The cost would exclude:
Application fee (poss about 60-70 depending on couincil)
Planning Permission (if required)
Annual licence from the land owner of the pavement affected (council? if required)
You will also be responsible for repairs etc on any underground services that may be affected by the work
Inspection fees on completion & periodic maintenance
Cheers

Just be careful with your ''Plank of wood'' Silverdaler, i know someone who was charged with obstructing/ endangering other road users, by leaving a plank of wood against the kerb to gain access onto their driveway. it would'nt be rocket science for someone to work out that someone from your household put the plank of wood their, especially with you having a driveway?
I know its a fair chunk of money {1000}, but it is for the best
