ultravox! john foxx or midge ure?

for any uvox fans out there,would you agree with me that the groups original line up with john foxx was better musically than the later incarnation fronted by midge ure,irrespective of chart success?

I think you hit' the nail on the head when you mentioned Chart success. The original incarnation did release some fine material but were going nowhere and were broke . John Foxx left and the others recruited Midge Ure and had a more 'commercial' sound. Chart success followed. I quite like songs from both line ups so sorry if it doesn't answer your question.
I am also of the opinion that the original line up was probably 4 years ahead of its time i.e if they had started in 1981 instead of during the punk explosion they would have had a more appreciative audience.
