virus on laptop cant remove help

hiya my father in laws laptop as got a virus on it ,cant do anything ,have tried various cleaners but nothing ,have noticed a link at the start up saying private area dont know wat this is wasnt there before ,can anyone help,oh and cant get on the internet

what makes you think its a virus? sounds like a spyware browser hijack to me. have you tried spybot and adaware?

well im not really a computer buff just do what i need to hahahaha,and in answer to ur ??? yes i have tried both of them but still no good,but thanks for ur help

What actually are the symptoms that make you think it has a virus? What is it actually doing?

If no anti-virus software will work, the ultimate solution is to reformat the hard drive and reinstall all your software.

Hi, before you format, try unplugging from internet, click:- run - (type %temp% ) - ok - select all - delete - close folder - recycle bin - empty contents.
Restart laptop, update and run anti virus software, anti spyware etc also update microsoft , do the above run again. this should help sort your problems, what anti virus and anti spyware do you have? do you have a firewall as well?
