we went for the 1st time in May last year and fully intended to do all the touristy things, so we did the Trevi Fountain (very very busy, you could only just get near it and the noise when you approached it certainly let you knew you were getting near.) The Spanish Steps (nice but just steps) The Colosseum (Mr Jules found this fascinating, but I found it quite dull). The Sistine Chapel (amazing, but very very slow moving but a truly breathtaking experience). St Peters was very interesting, however the stairs to the Dome (even if you took the lift, there were more stairs after the lift) were a bit much for an unfit person like me, but the view was spectacular! The Pantheon was lovely, ice cream parlour near here is supposed to do particularly wonderful ice cream, but didn't seem very special to me :( The taxis were cheap enough, but the driving was appalling. Everyone was very friendly and I felt very safe wandering around the streets. Crossing the road is particuarly treacherous however and beggars often children with missing limbs pedalling around on skateboard type contraptions were a common sight . We had food as part of our accomodation so the only time we ate out was at the Sistine Chapel and the prices were very reasonable.
