Robot Fighting movie

When I was a little kid (about 10 years ago) I once watched a film about giant Robots fighting in some kind of sport. They were huge, man driven robots. Some of the drivers/controllers of them got killed in the sport. I think. I found what I thought to be the sequel of this film called Crash and Burn. Because it had a large robot in it, but it wasn't. Does anyone know what I am on about? It must have been new for 10 years ago.
