Damp in the house
2 Answers
I am recent home owner of have bought an end terrace property in may 2006. I was advised that I should have the roof looked at within 3 months of moving into the house but I never got round to doing this. I know there is a "slight" damp issue with the house but should I be worrying more if I am seeing green, and sometimes white, mold appearing on the walls. It is only slight but I am a little concerned. I am a single female who is just learning the ups and downs of owning a property so hope someone can help .... dont scare me though! If I was to have the roof replaced, brand new, would this stop further damp issue. The area concerned is the wall with no neighbours next door. I have probably answered my own question but need some clarification Cheers

Rising damp, too.
You need to get into the loft space with a torch and have a good feel - can you feel wet or damp? Is there a musty smell?
Go up during strong daylight - can you see daylight through the tiles?
Is the mould under a water pipe? Under the bath, perhaps?
Don't assume you have a leaky roof. Damp can be caused by many different things.
You need to be sure it's not caused by condensation, leaking windows, gables, dripping pipes....
Take a deep breath and play detective. :)

Thanks ETHEL for your response.
I must admit I am the worlds worst for having my windows open. The mold is in the bedroom only which is probably the most used room in the house so you may have hit the nail on the head. I know there is some damp but was connecting the two together when really they may not be related.
Having the roof look at this week anyway so will keep you posted ..... thanks again for your response and I will OPEN THE WINDOW whilst at work from now on!
Cheers xx
