Why is it....

...this may be a silly question but I was wondering how come when you get more sleep you feel more tired than you did when you went to bed??? I ended up "bribing" my daughter last night and thought I'd try the old "mummy's gone to bed why don't you as well trick" and I ended up falling asleep by 98pm (Usually a late bird and go about 11-12) but this morning, I feel lilke I have been up all night!! Is it just me????

I think the more sleep you have you get into a deeper sleep so you feel more tired waking up from that deep sleep. Thats why I have 3 alarms go off in morning. One at 5.30 then one at 7.30 then one at 8, so it feels like I've had a lay in when I eventually get out of bed. :-) Or maybe I'm just a freak
hi smudge,
Im still trying to work out who you are but then 4get has so many lovely friends doesnt she :)
I think its something to do with your sleep cycles. The average sleep cycle is 4 hours or something so 8 hours can leave you feeling refreshed but waking after 10 hours can wake you from the deepest part of sleep and you feel tired and lacking.

the reason you were so tired is because people go through different phases of sleep (the whole thing being called a sleep cycle) if you sleep past the end the cycle you're likely to wake up mid way through the next cycle, because the cycles not finished you wake up feeling as tired as you would have done if you woke at the same phase in the first cycle
