I have just sat through Spy Kids, sorry er Thunderbirds - I couldn't believe the blatant Product Placement by Ford . Could this be the most obvious use of a movie as an advert?

lots of films have product placement. james bond- pierce brosnon's first few films had only BMW cars and motorbikes in them, and the last one had an Aston Martin Vanquish and Jaguar. and these car companies made sure you knew about it. even the older bond films had cars, usually aston martins or jaguars. Also the Matrix films had mobile phones, can't remember they were either Ericcson or Motorola.
What about FedEx and Wilson sports equipment in Tom Hanks' Castaway?
Haven't seen TB and no desire to, but I do hate product placement. We're bombarded with marketing constantly, not least in the 15 minutes before the film starts at the cinema. Is it too much to ask to keep the 90 mins of the film itself ad free? I think the lesson is obvious - avoid big blockbusters like the plague. support independent, innovative, groundbreaking filmmakers. here endeth the lesson.
Vanishing Point (1971), an existential road movie, was made by Universal and General Motors to advertise the latter's sporty Dodge (Charger?). And it's a good movie to boot.
in the steve mcqueen film bullet ford gave over their mustang fastback in the hope to boast their sales even more. this did help slightly but it was dodge who was the winner here as there charger car (the black car) that saw a greater increase in sales
