I have overwritten a very important spreadsheet on my laptop. Is there anyway of recovering it?!? Or is it lost forever?! It is not on any network and is simply on the C: drive, under a folder in 'My Documents'

Ok, if you really want the boring bits...
I have a spreadsheet on a network which is updated daily by different members of my team.
I have a saved copy of this on my C; drive, so I can access it away from work, i.e. when I am visiting places for audit purposes.
I have copied the one from the network to my C: drive, in error, and consequently lost info on 4 visits I have undertaken.
Kind of hard to explain, hence why I tried to keep it simple. I know if something like this happened with the original shared file on the network, it can be recovered by our ICT department. But this doesn't seem to apply to the info on my C: drive..or does it?! Can I reinstate my original spreadsheet and tell the comp to ignore my stupid mistake of overwriting it about an hour ago?!
I haven't turned the laptop off yet or anything...

You could try something like this:
http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/wel come.htm
But since you've overwritten the file and not just deleted it, I wouldn't get my hopes up too much.
