White trash / black trash
The most racist remark made during this CBB series has been Jermaine Jackson referring to Jade and Jackiey Goody as ''white trash'. Is Jermaine going to be condemned and made to apologise for that when he exits the House? Can you imagine the furore had they called Jermaine 'black trash'? It hardly bears thinking about?

From Wikipedia:
"Amongst white people who were racists and already believed that all black people and Hispanics were trash, it was felt necessary to have an expression that distinguished the cruder elements of the white people from all other races. "White trash" are perceived as having crude manners, abnormally low moral standards, and lack of cultured behavior and/or education. Swearing, smoking, promiscuity, drunkenness, overly loud and animated behavior in public..."
I need read up on this, but it appears that the term 'white trash' was invented by white Americans.
Furthermore, the description of this social group absolutely fits Jackiey.
Anyone care to comment on this?

I believe (and I'm sure craigiep is able to answer for himself), but I think what annoys him is the belief that white people face daily racism from non-whites, and this racism is ignored.
I understand his point of view, but I think it's flawed. It's like...there is a small minority of men who are beaten by their wives, but it would be madness to suggest that the problem is as extensive the other way round (men beating their female partners).
Yes, it should be taken seriously, but let's get things into perspective.
One black housemate made one comment, not a stream of comments over a period of a week.
To concentrate on what he said, rather than acknowledging the abuse of three women against the one Asian is just muddying the water.
I wonder what the apologists would've had to hang onto if Jermaine had used the term 'trailer trash'?

no, sp1814, what annoys me more than anything is that this whole CBB row would never have blown up had the object of Jade and co's anger not been an Asian. Those who run this nation have a chronic fear of Asians and their responses to such situations. That is not a racist remark. Asian friends of mine agree. Take yesterday's case of the Muslim policewoman who refuses to shake hands with a man, for example. My Asian friends are the first to say she should lose her job and, had she been of any other race, that would have happened instantly.

But it was about how these women treated this Asian. It's no good saying, "What if..." because we don't know. Your hyposthesis is exactly that...a hypothesis.
I've read loads about this over the weekend, and I'm in agreement with The Independent's view. I don't believe Jade is a racist, but she used the words of racism to bully Shilpa, because that was literally the only thing she could get her on.
When you look at the stuff Jade was saying, it had more to do with social/class jealousy. It was the other two who were making overtly/covertly racist comments.
Do you think it would've blown up if Shilpa were black?
Now THERE'S an interesting idea...I wonder whether theer would've been the same outcry?

oh dear sp1814, you criticise me for creating a hypothesis and then you create one of your own. As it happens, no, I don't think the same stink would have been caused had Shilpa been black. There have been similar situations within BB alone where black people have been victimised, yet it hasn't been blown up in a major diplomatic incident - indeed it hardly caused a ripple of concern.
Are you talking about row a couple of years back when the cops were called in?
Not a shred of racism there.
Also, remember Mikosi? She was pretty much hated...but still not a single racist comment.
In fact, there have been a number of twits in various racial groups, but this is the first occasion I can remember where racism has raised it's ugly head.
Back to your Asian friends - why are they specially interested in the story about the policewoman.
...she's not Asian!

This whole situation has been caused by a lack of social manners in todays society!
Our children - black, white, asian, chinese, from whatever race or culture they come, have been left to come to these ideas because our family/teachers/police ANYBODY in authority have lost the 'fear factor' so to speak. I'm NOT saying that our children should be scared of authority - but they should be taught RESPECT! The idea of having a role model in the shape of Policeman, Fireman etc is just 'funny' to the children of today.
Children are being physically abusive to the parents/teachers/Police etc, so what chance does anybody have? ASBOs are useless, and as a parent of a pre-pubescent boy - im worried for him!
Jade is a pure example of the above. Should we stand and judge her on her outbursts or should we praise the apologies and her thoughts of concerns she is showing for her own two children - or should we concern ourselves with what our society has produced?
I hope i havent offended anybody with this. It was not my intention to do so and if i have then i am truly sorry - but is that my mistake or the person i have offended?

Flowerpetal, it does not make the slightest difference that Jade apologised, what else can she do? Her so called "career" is in tatters. She has projects lined up, like appearances in Heat Magazine, her own line of perfume, interviews, appearances on reality TV - all this is at stake because she acted in such a vile manner.
Jade, it is said has always been a bully. Her own grandmother attested to this fact. Be it white/black/asian, no one is safe from Jade's bullying. She will always pick on someone who doesn't happen to be a fellow loudmouth. She should be punished.
Jade voiced her concern for her children. What about Shilpa Shetty's parents? Would they not have suffered seeing the abuse of their child?

Just let go...
Everybody who is against racism here are a few web side about supporting victims of racism. Yes caste system officialy doesn't exist but what is the reality
"This boy, along with 250 million of his people, have been told by the upper castes of India that they are less than human. If even their shadows falls on an upper caste, it pollutes them. The Dalit Freedom Network (DFN) is working with a growing number of individuals, foundations, and organizations outside of India to help support organizations that are within India to help the Dalits (doll-leet) gain their freedom. Take a moment and learn about the most oppressed people of all mankind.""
