Rendezvous with Rama
5 Answers
According to the movies.com website, there was afilm of this Arthur C Clarke book due to be released in 2003, but no updates to the entry have been made there since Nov 2000! And it certainly hasn't been released. I tried asking movies.com, but predictably got no reply.
So, does anyone here know what happened to this film project? I'm pretty much assuming that it's one of those projects that's failed and will never see the light of day, but that doesn't stop me wondering! The Rama books by Clarke conjure up wonderful images that would be great to see in a film (or even a series of films) and I'd have thought that Hollywood's recent record with sci-fi films would have seen this one through, but....
Cheers,
Nigel
P.S. By the way, I have Google-searched, but found very little info on this project - well, actually, none really! And it's not easy to come up with subjects on which Google knows nothing.... ;-)

Interesting rjcb23 - I hadn't seen this imdb entry before - but it seems like some sort of spoof film, I think. The film I was asking about was supposed to star Morgan Freeman and was to be directed by David Fincher. FTR, the movies.com entry is at http://movies.go.com/movies/R/rendezvouswithrama_2001/index. html (in case you didn't find it?)
What is interesting about that imdb entry, even though it's not for the right film, is that there IS some info in one of the message board entries about the David Fincher film! Interconnectedness of all things, I suppose, but we don't exactly have too many degrees of separation here, I guess....
Thanks for the quick reply!

Sorry, but I just posted an answer to this on People & Places, referring to the short film mentioned above. imdb searches on David Fincher and Morgan Freeman also produce no reference to the version you're asking about, and it looks as though the project never got off the ground or is still in its early stages - though imdb usually fully lists those. (Morgan Freeman's calendar looks very full!)
It seems that it's still in development, but it's gone very quiet. Morgan Freeman's production company is behind it - http://www.revelationsent.com/
There's an official site, but it doesn't seem to have been updated since last time I looked (a year or so ago): http://www.rendezvouswithrama.com/ I read somewhere that Fincher was planning to go down the "Sky Captain" route of almost everything except the actors being CGI - maybe they're waiting to see how "Sky Captain" works/performs, or just waiting on software developement?
