I want to find a song and the artist from the early 80's called The Crown

Don't know where you'd find it (it doesn't seem to be on iTunes or Napster), but just to try to help you out, it is indeed called The Crown, by Gary Byrd & The GB Experience. Released in 1983, at the time it was famous for being the longest chart single ever, at over 10 minutes (it has since been overtaken).
