I would like to go to crete this year with my boyfriend. We want it to be quite lively, with a good selection of restaurants and a nice sized beach. I went to Malia with some friends a few years back, i think it would be too mad there for my boyfriend. Was thinking about Hersonissos or Rethymnon. Has anyone been? Do these have nice beaches?

I went to Hersonissos about 3 years ago and it was nice. Maybe a bit commercialised and on it's way to being like Malia (which i though was awful). Rethymnon was even nicer. Lot's of history but also loads of nice bars and restaurants.

Chania is lovely and there is an airport there too.
