blocked ears

I feel like i'm going mad - my ears have been blocked for several years on and off. I don't think my hearing is affected but it's affecting the way i speak - sometimes it's really quiet as I can hear my speech and breathing really loud. my left ear is worse and when it's bad it makes me really dizzy. I know that blocked ears affect balance but as there's no wax it must be fluid. I know that going to my GP will be the start of lots of 'trial and error' wastes of my time so does anyone have any self help suggestions - or know what it might be to hurry things along with my GP?

Have you tried Hopi ear candles?
Annie,it really sounds to me like ear wax is causing your problems.I have experienced the same symtoms, speech and breathing etc.Try Otex ear drops..you can get them from the chemist.

it is definitely not wax as my mum is a nurse and has looked inside my ear. I did go to the pharmacist who said it was likely to be Labyrinthitis (vertigo) - does anyone have any experience of this?
Oh right,my mother suffers from that every now and then, but, she doesnt have the blocked ears.It is like vertigo with the extreme dizziness and she also experiences nausea. She has prescription tablets that are very effective. My friend's sister has the same problem, and again, she has medication from her doctor.

I guess i'll just have to go to the doc and take a leap of faith in the NHS... i do notice a bit of improvement if i take an anti inflamatory like nurofen which would support the vertigo theory. I have an appointment next week so i'll let you know!
Cranial osteopathy may help you, even though you have to pay for it if you are going mad it may well be worth it!
Good luck.
