Looking through a Thomas Cook Holiday Brochure, It said that you are not allowed to take in a portable Dvd player , except if its included in a laptop. Does anyone know the reason for this?

they dont like you filming in the country and showing the locals the west and whats happening in the outside world.
I don't think that is correct as you can't record on a portable DVD player. I have recently returned from Cuba with loads of camcorder action in towns/beaches etc with no problems. I don''t know why you can't take DVD players though.
When I went to Cuba last year we were told that DVD players would be confiscated at the airport and returned when we left - but as we were flying back from a different airport it definitely wasn't an option.

It is to do with censorship I believe and what DVD's you would be likely to show to locals.
JK2's right, and, strictly speaking, the same applies to video tapes in Indonesia.
