Snow machines.......ever used one??

Has anybody ever bought or used a mini snow machine.?
I wanted to get one for a surprise birthday treat but when I have started to read all the reviews on line some say they produce realistic snow and others say it is just foam so I am confused now! Any advice guys??

Basically it's a very fine foam that behaves just like real snow if the machines are on full blast it can look a bit foamy but a lighter setting it's difficult to tell.

This village close to me did snow this Christmas it was great - kids loved it......alternatively you could do bubbles.
