I want to upgrade the RAM on my laptop to 512 or 1024. How easy is this to do? Could I do it myself? Also as I currently have 256 can I simply add another 256 to make it 512 or do I need to buy 512 and discard my old ram? Thanks!

I could be wrong but I think laptops have only one slot for memory. And remember its a So-dimm module you need.
This is super easy if you can open the RAM slot cover on the back of you laptop. The newer the laptop the easier it is.

There is a good chance this slot is empty and you just need to get another SIMM/DIMM of RAM. IE not replace what you already have.

You will need to get your laptop manual and find out the type of RAM it uses and then search the NET for a supplier. DABS.COM and ARIA.CO.UK are great in the UK.

Make sue the RAM is the EXACT match for your laptop as there are many different types.
Go here, and tell them what your laptop is (it's very important): http://www.crucial.com/uk

You could use the 'scan my system' option to determine if you have one slot or two.

Mac70: some only have 1, many have 2 though.
I recently upgraded the RAM on my PC and the best price was from MicroDirect by quite a lot at the time
Make and model of laptop ?
