Official documents???

I have already written this out but seems to have disappeared.

Right here I go again. I will be going on holiday and my mother in law is having my child. Do I need official documents to say she has complete guardianship incase she needs to go to the doctors, hosptial ect incase of an emergency or will a simple letter from me do?

I'm sure that many grandparents care for their grandchildren in such circumstances without any official authority, but if it will ease your concern, I'm sure you could write a simple letter of authority saying "In my temporary absence I authorise Mrs xxxxxx, my daughter xxx's grandmother, to take whatever action is appropriate for my child's physical and medical wellbeing.

It might help your mother in law if you give her a separate list of any illnesses, vaccinations, alergies you child has had in case medical attention is necessary. And enjoy your holiday. Your daughter will probably enjoy spending time with her grandmother.

Hi Wigglebum,
Do you have a solicitor? If so, give them a copy of your letter -JUST for emergencies.

Not to worry you, but i would also add the name of an emergency contact and contingency plan into the letter should something happen to your Mother-in-law e.g...sister in law will take your child to school and collect, brother in law will have your child on the tuesday etc etc.

This will solve ANY problems should they arise. Best laid plans and all that.
