Kland, I'm in the same situation as you. I've read all of the replies here - some useful, some not. Everyone will have an opinion on your situation - just remember, you cannot comment on something if you have not actually been there yourself.

As for valentines (and afterall, that is what this discussion is about) i recently gave my lover a very expensive tie which he wears at work. I agree with porfavour, get something for yourself which he also will enjoy. Sexy underwear is a good bet - and he will definitely appreciate it. Thought about dressing up? I'll bet there is something he'd like - policewoman? nurse? He'll know its for his benefit and you may have more fun than you'd think too.
