I'm meeting my new BF parent's this weekend and I'm absolutely dreading it

They invited me to their dad's birthday dinner down in Manchester but I reckon it's just an excuse to have a good butcher's at their son's new GF, 6 years his senior at 30. The pressure's on as they hated his ex and his mum is a vicar's daughter and I'm pretty much expecting the Spanish Inquisition as it looks as though he's bigged me up somewhat.

I'm really scared that I may say something silly or fart at the dinner table or something horrendous.

What's the most embarrassing thing that's happened to you the first time you met your partner's parents and how did you get out of it?

Wish me luck, GULP!!!!! x

Nothing for me, but I must relate a story told by a gentleman I used to work with - now retired. The story concerned his first visit to his girlfriend's parents, but he and his girlfriend have beenb married for over forty years, so this incident obviously didn't put them off.

Picture the scene - 1944 - a naval stoker who has been at sea with the Russian convoys in the Antarctic for weeks on end, cooped up with a load of rough sailors, living cheek-by-jowl, and developing a way of interaction that comes to men in such circumstances.

Sitting at the table in his girlfriend's parents' house, he is really nervous, and trying hard to mind his manners, when, in a moment of forgetfullness, he is mentally transferred back to the galley on his destroyer, and he turns to his (as it turns out) future mother-in-law, and asks her in ringing tones to "Pass the f**cking butter!"

More tea anyone?

Hahahahaha... that's fabulous!

haven't seen you on here for AGES! X
You've had some great replies jeanette!

I've been in your situation several times as tend to date younger men. None of the relationships have lasted long after meeting their parents and I think I've only just worked out why.....
Dad tries to flirt with me, I flirt back (humouring the old fool), mum gets the hump, I get dumped.

My advice....make sure you make friends with the mummy person first!
The first time I met my boyfriends parents was outside his mates party, we were kissing (a bit too passionately in retrospect) and his mum came up and tapped him on the shoulder! Apparently she was very impressed that I didnt run away from what, at 15 years old was a very embarrasing situation!
Thanks - I have been here - maybe our paths have not crossed? I'm still on here every day.
