Can someone settle an argument between me & my girlfriend?

When you have opened a tin of food (ie - baked beans) & don't use them all, does putting half full tin in the fridge contribute towards food poisoning?

According to the FSA...

"Don�t store food in an opened tin can, or re-use empty cans to cook or store food. This is because when a can has been opened and the food is open to the air, the tin may transfer more quickly to the can�s contents".

Apparently putting a tin in the fridge rapidly increases the speed of bacterial growth

Remove the remains of a tin and transfer it to a tupperware, glass or metal container with an airtight lid.
Beans or similar food will keep for about 2 days.

Should have added:
Food should not be left in a tin because the steel is exposed by the tin opener and steel rusts!
It must be refrigerated.

It's never killed me.

Key thing is not to leave it for days- 24 hours maximum. Bacteria don't reproduce as quickly in a fridge at any rate. Some bacteria won't actually kill, y'know.

Its also because the tin would rust in the fridge.
