Fixed Penalty Notice
My boyfriend was caught shoplifting and now wants to change his life around. He's applied to a company for a job but is worried that they will find out about the fixed penalty notice he received for the offence. The company is not doing a CRB check so should he still be worried.

You have to do what you think necessary in order to get an interview. Legally it is probably fraudulent but it is going to effect his employment prospects if he does not lie. I would not tell them but if it does come to light later it is usually sackable offence to lie on your CV, There is also the question of references 'do you know of any reason. etc'.
It will depend on what is asked on the job application form. Generally employers will not have the right to ask about previous cons unless the employment involves dealing directly with 'vulnerable people' - amongst these such people as children, disabled, old and... wait for it... ex-offenders. This means a real 'hands on' dealing with them, not just selling them things from a counter or just speaking to them on the phone..... the situation is fluid, but if not asked about any previous, then your boyfriend has a total right never to refer to any.
