My friend is going for a job and he has been told that he will have to do a brief presentation on any aspect of strategic planning prior to the interview proper (I think it is a 10 minute presentation).
He is familiar with strategic planning and is involved in it in his current role but can you think of a good angle to use for a presentation at interview?
Thanks

Yep, he should (if he has time) make a fictional strategic plan for a company and provide the interviewers with his proposal so it isn't just a p/point its interactive and shows that he knows about it.
Quite tricky to do, whether he wants it to be serious or have a touch of humour, also it gives the interviewers something fresh and the opportunity to quiz him and he can relate his answers in context to the company he creates.
I sat in on someone doing this on SWOT analysis and it was brilliant.

Thanks aviator. However I picked my friend up wrongly and therefore asked an inaccurate question!
What will actually happen is that on arrival he will be presented with a question/scenario (on some aspect of strategic planning). He then has 30 minutes to prepare a response to the scenario and will be given 5 minutes to present it to the panel.
Based on this, how best do you think he can prepare?
Sorry i missed your reply, have been on hols. Hope he got on ok!

He got on great aviator. In fact he got on so well that he got the job!
We ploughed through a lot of ideas the day before and thought that the best way to prepare for the question would be to do a SWOT analysis thereby giving him a broad range of issues and areas to cover in his response irrespective of the scenario set (it was an internal position).
You wouldn't believe it but when he sat down and read the question, it asked him to do a SWOT analysis of areas to be included in the strategic planning process!!
What a gift!!
Thanks for your help aviator and I hope you enjoyed your hols!
