When i try to play clips from eg the bbc web site, i get the following message:
"Unable to locate server. This server does not have a DNS entry. Please check the server name in the URL and try again."

Does anyone know what is wrong or how i can rectify this?

Are you using windows media player or real player. If you are using windows media player, i'd suggest getting real player (you can get it free from real.com) as its better for handling the BBC clips for some reason.

If you are already using real player then the problem sounds like a timeout issue. A lot depends on how you are connected to the internet. Let me know and I'll be able to provide you with a more comprehensible answer!

I get the message whether I use media player or real player.

I am connected through an asdl line in work and other people have no problems playing clips from the same site
Check the following conditions on your machine:

-Make sure you have the latest version possible of your internet browser (Internet Explorer advised) or try it in another browser like Firefox.

-Make sure your Media Media Player/Real Player is version 9 or above

-Also try running a disk cleanup on your system to clear any temporary internet files etc.
