Other facts: the song was written by Mick Coleman, formerly half of Brian & Michael ("Matchstalk Men And Matchstalk Cats And Dogs") and released under the group name Claire And Friends. They were from somewhere in the Stockport area, um... oh, there was an album by Claire Usher called "Super Claire" (the flop follow-up single was "Superman", clever theming y'see...) which is pretty awful and clearly no-one thought through the implications of giving a nine-year-old the hit song "Rubber Ball" to sing.
