I have had probably about 30-35 cats in my life, all domestic short hairs among them about 5 orange tiger striped or tabbys I have found the orange cats to be more intellegent ,more socialable , all around a better pet . They also have always ended up as the alpha cat in a multi cat home. Is this a coincidence or is there something different in thier makeup?

Not sure about cats, I have only had tabbies and a black and white, but I am sure it is true of us ginger people!
My cat is a ginger and white tabby and he's very sociable - a real people loving cat - not sure about the intelligent part as he regularly fall off things, losing toys under furniture then keeps searching for them there even when he's seen you get it out and he's been playing with it again. Not entirely sure there is much in the way of brain there! Definietly sociable though.
Ginger (or Orange - is that a US term?) cats are usually male, aren't they? Maybe that has something to do with it.

annavc - how can a cat with so many toes fall off things?!
We had a ginger cat and he was very very sociable though we used to nickname him Dippy as he wasn't the brightest thing bless him.
The Big Gill - I have no idea - you would think he'd have great balance with a total of 26 toes but that is definitely not the case - he loves to jump in the air to catch a piece of screwed up paper thrown for him but I've lost count of the number of times he's fallen over backwards on landing and then fallen off the chair or bed or whatever he was on! He's definitely got the clumsy gene!
I have a MULTI cat household also with all sorts of different color bombos. I do have a dilute all over peach/sand colored male that i rescued at about 4-5 months. He had been kicked(********!) by some horrid little child who broke his pelvis. Well, during treatment and recooperation he and i worked out a little code thingy. I would have to lift him and hold him in the litter box and i could tell from his meow what he wanted. He has recovered with a wobbly rear gate, and it spoilt beyond belief(he deserves it), but i always thought he was a smart cookie because we were able to "communicate" with each other successfully. I also have a female calico whos mother is an Apple head Siamese. "Cali" is very bright and intelligent. She taught herself to pee in the toilet(hasn't learnt to flush yet though)
she taught "ME" how to play kitty fetch. She has the fiery temperament of a red head and the intelligence of the Siamese(she can be a real little cow too). Now i have a large all black male who i can just see the intelligence in his eyes and he is a stinker too. Another large all black male has large "owl" eyes which give him a bit of a retarded look, but he is just mellow and laid back, i call him my surfer dude kitty. I dont necessarily think intelligence depends on the colors as much as the breed of cat, that being said i have alley cats who if human could work at NASA.

hi, it's me again. I forgot to tell you something that "Cali" did once that blew me away.
Well, I gave her a tiny little rubber duckie to play fetch with once. She LOVED this duckie and i had a few, but they all ended up disappearing(probably under the fridge or stove)
anyway one day knowing we had lost the last duckie days before i said to Cali as she jumped on my bed, "Where's duck duck, go find duck duck!?" She just looked at me then jumped off the bed and i thought nothing of it. A few minutes later here comes Cali and she dropped the rubber duckie on my lap wanting to play fetch! I was blown away! She had actually understood me when i told her to find duck duck! I was and still am impressed.Mikala
all the cats on this thread sound lovely.

I am between cats just now, but have phoned somebody tonight who needs to re-home a ginger kitten. It sounds like, if he comes to stay, I am in for a laugh.

My last dog was a lab/GSD and had an illness the vet called Labrador brains. Sometimes he was so stupid that I would be left speechless. He would roll over on my bed and fall off on a regular basis, skate across the kitchen floor and smack into the worktops and fall down the stairs.

I miss him.
We had 2 cats-one black one ginger. The ginger cat was, unusually, a girl. She was so demanding, like a baby, and even now sits next to my mum on the chair and pats my mum's arm and even face with her paw to get attention. I also remember that when she was a kitten she had fur that felt like cheap nylon! But I'd say she does rule the roost at my parents house.
