I had hypnotherapy years ago to give up smoking. The hypnotherapist talked to me until I was very, very relaxed but knew all that was going on. She talked about my smoking, my reasons for quitting etc and at one point I cried but was still able to use the tissue she gave me. I had two sessions and gave up really after the first but had a couple of cigarettes in that week. After the second I gave up completely. The funny thing was that I thought I smoked with alcohol but after stopping smoking I couldn't be bothered to drink either. However, I chose to start smoking again some months later - I made myself - don't ask me why. So it can certainly work if you want it to and I would recommend it.
