Burning dvd on nero

Been trying to burn a dvd on nero express. Have followed instructions, but when i add video file it comes up saying no compatible file found. What am i doing wrong. Any help would be grateful.

What format is the video format in ?
If Nero can see the file as a compatible medie type then it should burn ok.

I have two types one is, movie file mpeg, and other is windows audio video file
