I'm 31 now, so anyone who is a similar age may remember. When I was in nursery and maybe even the 1st year of primary school, we used to read a series of books. All I can remember is there were 2 children in them, think they were brother and sister. They both had black hair with a dead straight fringe, the girl had pig-tails. They were not real pictures, just animation. Please help me.
The books were the Janet and John readers which built up children's ability to read by increasing the difficulty as the series went on. A memorable couple of lines from one of the early books were "This is Janet" and on the next page "This is John" both with suitable pictures.
I read Janet and John at primary school in the 1960s. They certainly didn't have dark hair straight fringes, and they weren't very American, either. In fact, they were frightfully English.
