So probably a load of yanks (who don't know any better) voted "The queen" as best film, whereas the Best british Film was voted by British winners who are sick of the sight of Hellen Mirren!

The bulk of the award categories are voted for by the members of BAFTA [applicants for membership of BAFTA UK must have a minimum of four years professional experience in the film, television or games industries (or any combination of these) and must be able to demonstrate a significant professional contribution to the industry].
There are also four awards "in the gift of the Academy" i.e. decided either totally by, or with more involvement of, the Academy's Film Committee. These include THE ALEXANDER KORDA AWARD for the Outstanding British Film of the Year as won by "The Last King of Scotland".
